A practical on-site assessment of visible home and parking conditions to help identify possible charger locations, suitable product options and the next step for independent licensed electrical review.

Plan your home EV charging before choosing a charger.

Every home is different. Parking position, visible switchboard information, likely cable route and future charging needs can all affect product selection and the questions an electrical contractor must confirm.

During a Residential Site Assessment, GridPilot reviews visible and accessible conditions at the property and provides preliminary product-selection and site-planning guidance.

What We Review

  • Your EV or planned EV, connector requirements and typical charging needs
  • Garage, driveway, carport or outdoor parking setup
  • Preferred charger location and mounting position
  • Visible condition and location of the switchboard, without opening or testing it
  • Preliminary cable-route and installation-access considerations
  • Indoor, sheltered-outdoor or exposed-location considerations
  • Preference for simple Plug & Charge, app control, RFID or connected features
  • Solar, battery, off-peak charging or second-EV plans
  • Preliminary product pathway, such as essential, smart or compact charging
  • Information and questions to take to a licensed electrical contractor

What You Receive

  • On-site review of visible and accessible site conditions
  • Preliminary charger-location and product-pathway recommendation
  • Preliminary installation considerations and known information gaps
  • Indicative product-category or charger recommendations, where appropriate
  • A concise written assessment summary
  • Clear next-step guidance for a separate GridPilot equipment quotation or independent licensed electrical review

Important Notes

  • Price covers one standard residential property within GridPilot’s standard Auckland service area.
  • Additional travel charges may apply outside the standard service area and will be confirmed before the visit.
  • This assessment is advisory and based on visible, accessible conditions and information supplied by the customer. It is not an electrical certificate, electrical inspection, detailed electrical design, approval to install, final installation quotation or confirmation of installation feasibility.
  • GridPilot does not open switchboards, perform electrical testing or verify available electrical capacity as part of the standard assessment.
  • Final feasibility, cable sizing, protection selection, circuit design, capacity confirmation, installation method, testing and certification must be independently confirmed and completed by an appropriately licensed electrical contractor engaged directly by the customer.
  • Product recommendations are preliminary and remain subject to vehicle compatibility, exact supplied configuration, stock, compliance documentation and professional site verification.
  • Complex properties, shared parking and apartment buildings may require a Commercial Site Assessment.

Any electrical installation is separately assessed, quoted, contracted, invoiced, performed, tested and certified by an independent licensed electrical contractor engaged directly by the customer. GridPilot does not supply or invoice the electrical installation service.

Booking Information

  • Allow approximately 45–60 minutes on site.
  • The customer should provide access to the parking area, proposed charger location and switchboard.
  • Rescheduling requires at least 24 hours’ notice.
  • Full payment is required before the site visit.
  • Assessment fee credit: If the customer purchases a qualifying EV charger from GridPilot within 7 calendar days after the assessment, the full NZ$99 assessment fee will be credited toward the eligible charger equipment order. The credit does not apply to electrical work, installation, travel, variations, permits or third-party services. After 7 days, or if no qualifying charger is purchased, the assessment fee remains the normal non-refundable charge for the completed visit and assessment.

GridPilot’s Role and Next Steps

GridPilot provides preliminary site-planning and product-selection guidance based on information available at the time of assessment. If the customer decides to proceed, GridPilot may separately quote eligible charger equipment. Where requested, GridPilot may introduce an independent licensed electrical contractor, but that contractor must inspect and confirm the site, provide its own quotation and contract, invoice the customer directly, and remain responsible for its installation work, testing and certification.
